A lot of useful places about Holland and Leeuwarden here!


1. Bike (nl. fiets):


Maybe you already recognized one thing: People in Holland don’t walk, they go everywhere by bike. You hardly can live without one here!!!
So here are some addresses where you may find a good, cheap bike. (Prices for almost normal bikes will be from 50,- € on.)

3. Sports:


After too much food you have to do some sports that you won’t get too … (you know). At the “Bouhof” (Location of the NHL – Rengerslaan/Dokkumer Trekweg) you can choose from various sports.


The sport pass for one year you can get for 70,- € (sport classes) or 110,-€ (including gym)
There is also a half year sport pass available.


To apply visit www.leeuwardenstudiestad.nl and fill in the application form as long as you don’t have a student’s number, just leave that out). One or two days later you can get it at the Bouhof – make sure you have a photo of you to put it into the sport pass.

5. Cinemas:


In the Netherlands the movies are in the original language with Dutch subtitle. So if you want to improve your languages – go to the cinema. But don’t wonder – they have breaks in between every film.

6. Freetime-activity:


Some days a week the discos are closed. If you want to do something instead of studying you can have a lot of fun in one of the next mentioned locations.

7. Train:


A normal student has sometimes different things to do than going to lessons. We call it educational journeys. To travel a bit more cheaply in the Netherlands you can buy a special discount ticket.


• Voordeel Urenkaart → 55,- € for 1 year (40% discount in the week from 9 o’clock on and in the weekend) available at the train station


8. Bank:


If you want to work here you need a Dutch bank account to get the money. Here some banks where you don’t have to pay extra money.

9. Post:


The experience you get here in a foreign country will be interesting enough to write a lot to keep your friends and family informed. If you maybe don’t want to do that via internet – write a letter or post card.

10. Computer:


Normally students keep contact with their family and friends at home (and also here in the Netherlands) via internet. If you want to buy something for your computer or you have problems with it – try at one of the following location.
